Mechanized Tunnelling
Since 1939 specialists of Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG have been concerned with the development of tunnel driving machines. The first fully mechanized tunnel boring machine was used on the construction of the North-South-Line (Line 6) of the Munich underground railway in 1966/67. Since then numerous important tunnels have testified to our engineers' leading position in this field. Outstanding projects are the Elbe Crossing, the Westerschelde Tunnel, and the 9 km long Katzenberg Tunnel. Information about current projects is available via the links in the margin.
