Hubertus Tunnel

Longest inner-city tunnel in the Netherlands

With a length of 1.6 km, the Hubertus Tunnel in The Hague will be the longest inner-city tunnel in the Netherlands. The tunnel, which has two separate tubes with two traffic lanes each, is the final link in the northern Randweg of The Hague. Each tube has an inside diameter of 9.60 m. Five cross-passages will provide the necessary safety in the tunnel.
A slurry shield was used to drive the tunnels. Thus, the drives could be completed successfully, i.e. with minimal surface settlement and a high-quality tunnel lining, in May 2007. The overall completion of the project is scheduled for late summer 2008.
