Bridge construction
After the Frenchman Freyssinet had discovered the significance of high-tensile steel for the prestressing of concrete in 1928, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG acquired his patent in 1934 and revolutionized bridge construction in Germany by building prestressed bridges. In 1938, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG constructed the first German bridge to be built with prestressed prefabricated parts near the town of Oelde in Westphalia, which after 70 years is still in use as a road bridge. In 1979, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG built the highest bridge in Germany with a height of 185 m near Geislingen. Further impressive bridges, such as the A42 motorway bridge over the River Rhine at Duisburg bear witness to the high technical know-how of our engineers in this technically most challenging field.
