In the course of the construction of the motorway intersection „Bochum West“, a 170 m long retaining wall was anchored back to secure the dump of the former ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH site. After five suitability tests to find out the actual outer soil bearing capacity of the marl, finally 49 GEWI-tension piles with a diameter of 40 mm with double corrosion protection were installed.

The pile heads are integrated in the head beam of the bored pile wall. Particularly challenging was the adjustment of the GEWI load bearing elements to the existing marl level at site. Thus, the piles had a length of up to 17.20 m. The works, which were carried out at the construction site of the motorway intersection “Bochum West”, were completed without defects and within the agreed deadlines.
